Job Description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives, ensuring individuals and families maintain their homes and thrive within their communities? Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Tenancy Sustainment Officer to join our dynamic team in Norfolk Park, Sheffield. This pivotal role is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to provide essential support, advice, and advocacy to tenants facing a range of challenges, from financial difficulties and benefit issues to anti-social behaviour concerns and mental health support needs.

In this role, you will be the cornerstone of our efforts to prevent tenancy breakdown, reduce homelessness, and promote stable living conditions. You will work directly with tenants, building trust and rapport, conducting welfare checks, and developing personalised support plans. Your ability to navigate complex situations with sensitivity and professionalism will be crucial. This involves providing practical assistance with Universal Credit applications, budgeting advice, signposting to specialist services, and liaising with external agencies such as social services, health providers, and debt counselling organisations.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, highly organised, and possesses excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The Tenancy Sustainment Officer will be expected to manage a diverse caseload, meticulously document interactions, and ensure compliance with housing regulations and company policies. You will become an expert in housing law and welfare benefits, constantly updating your knowledge to provide the most current and effective advice. The role requires a compassionate individual who can empower tenants to take ownership of their tenancy, fostering independence and resilience. If you are driven by a desire to contribute positively to social outcomes and possess a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, we encourage you to apply. This is a chance to truly impact lives and help shape stronger, more resilient communities across Sheffield.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support and advice to tenants to prevent tenancy breakdown and address issues impacting their housing stability.
  • Conduct welfare visits and needs assessments, developing and implementing tailored tenancy sustainment plans.
  • Offer practical assistance with welfare benefit applications, budgeting, and debt management, signposting to specialist external agencies where necessary.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for tenants, addressing concerns related to rent arrears, anti-social behaviour, property maintenance, and neighbour disputes.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments (e.g., Housing Management, Repairs) and external partners (e.g., local authorities, mental health services, charities) to coordinate support.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all tenant interactions, support plans, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with data protection policies.
  • Monitor and review tenant progress, adapting support strategies as required to achieve positive tenancy outcomes.
  • Empower tenants to develop independent living skills and connect with community resources.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant housing legislation, welfare benefits, and best practices in tenancy sustainment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in housing, social care, welfare advice, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of housing law, welfare benefits, and tenancy management practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a challenging and varied caseload effectively, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems for record-keeping and case management.
  • Empathetic and non-judgemental approach with a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for travel within Sheffield.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in housing, social work, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing complex needs (e.g., mental health issues, substance misuse, domestic abuse).
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks within Sheffield.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and mediation.
