Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications equipment and systems, including fiber optic cables, copper wiring, routers, switches, and VoIP systems.
- Perform diagnostic tests and troubleshoot network issues, equipment malfunctions, and connectivity problems to ensure optimal system performance.
- Execute repairs, replacements, and upgrades of telecommunications hardware and software components.
- Conduct site surveys to assess project requirements and prepare detailed reports and documentation.
- Adhere strictly to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations during all work activities.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients, explaining complex issues in an understandable manner.
- Collaborate with project managers and other technicians to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance, repairs, and service calls.
- Participate in on-call rotations for emergency service and support as needed.
- Stay updated with new telecommunications technologies and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Telecommunications Technician or similar role
- Strong understanding of fiber optics, copper cabling, and network protocols (TCP/IP)
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and testing equipment (OTDR, VFL, power meters)
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions and confined spaces
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field
- Certifications in specific telecommunications technologies (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA, BICSI)
- Experience with PABX systems, CCTV, and access control systems
- Familiarity with local building codes and telecommunications standards
