Your day-to-day responsibilities will span from meticulous data entry and complex calculation of wages, commissions, and bonuses, to managing various deductions and ensuring all remittances are processed correctly and on schedule. Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and collective agreements.
- Calculate and process deductions, remittances, and garnishments in compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
- Reconcile payroll data, prepare journal entries, and assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
- Administer employee benefits and pension plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and tax-related matters in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare T4s, ROEs, and other relevant tax forms and government remittances.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
- Stay current with changes in payroll legislation, employment standards, and tax laws to ensure continuous compliance.
- Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll, benefits, and HR data.
- Generate various payroll reports for management, finance, and HR departments as required.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in payroll administration.
- Proficiency with major payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, UKG).
- Solid understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and tax regulations (CRA).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification is highly preferred.
- Experience with an HRIS system integration.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Familiarity with BC-specific labour laws and regulations.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
