Key Responsibilities
- Assist Occupational Therapists in providing direct patient care, carrying out treatment plans as established by the OTR.
- Implement therapeutic activities and exercises designed to improve patients' strength, coordination, balance, and fine motor skills.
- Educate patients and their families/caregivers on therapeutic interventions, adaptive equipment use, and home exercise programs.
- Observe and document patient progress, reactions to treatment, and communicate findings effectively to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and supplies, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations governing occupational therapy practice.
Required Skills
- Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in Michigan.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated ability to follow and implement treatment plans effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
- Proficiency in documenting patient care and progress.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
- Experience across multiple patient populations or settings (e.g., acute care, skilled nursing, outpatient).
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
