Key Responsibilities
- Operate a diverse range of heavy construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and compactors, with precision and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Perform thorough pre-operation and post-operation inspections, identify and report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
- Strictly adhere to all site-specific safety regulations, company policies, and provincial guidelines to ensure a secure work environment for all personnel.
- Assist in the precise planning and execution of earthworks, including excavation, backfilling, grading, and trenching activities.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and engineering drawings to achieve exact project specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with site supervisors, engineers, and other construction team members to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
- Conduct minor routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around all operated machinery.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years (48 months) proven experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- Valid Class 1 or 3 driver's license with air brake endorsement, or equivalent, applicable to British Columbia.
- Comprehensive understanding of heavy equipment operation, safety protocols, and basic field maintenance procedures.
- Exceptional spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and survey markings.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy Equipment Operator certification from a recognized trade institution.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment systems for enhanced precision.
- Previous experience working on large-scale civil infrastructure projects within British Columbia.
- Knowledge of local soil conditions and environmental protection regulations in BC.
