Job Description
Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Water Treatment Operator for an immediate start within the Eureka Road District, Taylor. This crucial full-time position involves operating and maintaining water treatment plant equipment to ensure the continuous delivery of safe, clean drinking water to the community. You will be instrumental in safeguarding public health by closely monitoring treatment processes, conducting routine laboratory tests, and making necessary adjustments to chemical dosages and equipment settings based on water quality analysis and operational parameters.
As a Water Treatment Operator, your days will be dynamic, encompassing everything from inspecting pumps, valves, and filters to documenting operational data with precision. You’ll troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues, perform preventative maintenance, and adhere strictly to all regulatory compliance standards set forth by local, state, and federal agencies, including EPA guidelines. This role demands a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of water chemistry, microbiology, and the ability to respond effectively to varying raw water quality conditions and operational demands to maintain optimal treatment efficiency.
Your responsibilities will extend to ensuring the proper functioning of chemical feed systems, clarifiers, filters, and disinfection equipment. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate logs, records, and reports related to plant operations, chemical usage, and water quality testing results. Furthermore, you will work within a collaborative team environment, coordinating with fellow operators, maintenance staff, and supervisors to ensure seamless 24/7 plant operations. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, filters, and chemical feed systems.
- Perform routine laboratory tests on water samples (e.g., pH, turbidity, chlorine residual, alkalinity, hardness) and interpret results.
- Adjust chemical dosages (e.g., coagulants, disinfectants, pH adjusters) to maintain optimal water quality and treatment efficiency.
- Monitor SCADA systems, gauges, and meters to ensure all processes are operating within established parameters.
- Conduct daily inspections of plant facilities and equipment, identifying and reporting any malfunctions or potential issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and assist with minor repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs, records, and reports of plant operations, chemical usage, and water quality analyses.
- Adhere strictly to all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA).
- Troubleshoot operational problems and respond to alarms or emergencies in a timely and effective manner.
- Ensure proper inventory and safe handling of all chemicals used in the treatment process.
- Collaborate with other operators and maintenance staff to ensure continuous and efficient plant operation.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid State of Michigan Water Treatment Operator License (Class D or higher)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in water treatment plant operations
- Strong understanding of water treatment processes, chemistry, and microbiology
- Proficiency in performing laboratory tests and interpreting results
- Ability to operate and monitor complex plant control systems (SCADA)
- Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance
- Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field
- Advanced State of Michigan Water Treatment Operator License (Class B or A)
- Experience with wastewater treatment operations
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance software systems
- HAZWOPER certification
