Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Clinical Coder to join our dynamic team in West Bridgford, Nottingham. This pivotal role involves the accurate and timely translation of complex clinical information from patient records into standardised alpha-numeric codes, primarily using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the integrity of our healthcare data, which is fundamental for accurate activity analysis, service planning, commissioning, and ultimately, improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate clinical diagnoses and procedures into accurate ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes in a timely manner.
  • Review patient case notes, reports, and electronic health records to extract comprehensive clinical information.
  • Ensure strict compliance with national clinical coding standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Liaise effectively with clinical staff to clarify documentation, resolve coding queries, and improve data capture.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding classifications, guidelines, and changes through continuous learning.
  • Participate actively in internal and external coding audits, striving to maintain high levels of coding accuracy.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of coding practices and overall data quality initiatives.

Required Skills

  • NHS National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) or an equivalent certification.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in clinical coding using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in using clinical information systems and electronic patient record (EPR) software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coding across a variety of clinical specialties and complex cases.
  • Familiarity with audit processes, data quality initiatives, and performance reporting.
