Key Responsibilities
- Excavation and trenching for foundations, drainage, and utility services.
- Laying concrete and asphalt, including finishing and levelling.
- Operating various plant machinery (e.g., excavators, dumpers, rollers) if appropriately licensed and experienced.
- Performing manual labour, including digging, lifting, carrying materials, and general site clearance.
- Installing and maintaining effective site drainage systems and services.
- Ensuring strict compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
- Reading and accurately interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Working effectively as part of a cohesive team, communicating clearly with colleagues and site management.
- Assisting with the installation of pipes, manholes, gullies, and other underground services.
- Maintaining a clean and organised work area, including proper storage of tools and materials.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Groundworker on active construction sites.
- Competent in all fundamental aspects of groundworks, including deep drainage, concreting, and finishing.
- Possession of a valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Strong understanding and adherence to site-specific health and safety procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a demanding, fast-paced construction environment.
- Excellent physical fitness, stamina, and manual dexterity.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- NPORS or CPCS tickets for plant machinery (e.g., Dumper, Roller, Excavator 360, Telehandler).
- Full, clean UK Driving Licence with own transport.
- Relevant vocational qualifications or completion of a recognised apprenticeship.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Experience with specialist groundworks techniques, such as piling or shoring.
