Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for various construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and other tender documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and pricing.
  • Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and material calculations using industry-standard software.
  • Identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering options to optimize project costs and schedules.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure alignment on project objectives and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain a robust cost database and historical project data for future estimation accuracy.
  • Prepare detailed proposals and presentations to internal stakeholders and prospective clients.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and construction methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Construction Estimator, preferably in BC.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, codes, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all calculations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Professional designation such as PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor), CET (Certified Engineering Technologist), or P.Eng (Professional Engineer).
  • Experience with a variety of project types (e.g., commercial, residential, industrial, institutional).
  • Familiarity with local building codes, bylaws, and permitting processes in British Columbia.
  • Experience with project management software.
