Key Responsibilities
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for various construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and other tender documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and pricing.
- Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and material calculations using industry-standard software.
- Identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering options to optimize project costs and schedules.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure alignment on project objectives and budgets.
- Develop and maintain a robust cost database and historical project data for future estimation accuracy.
- Prepare detailed proposals and presentations to internal stakeholders and prospective clients.
- Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and construction methodologies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Construction Estimator, preferably in BC.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, codes, and regulations.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar platforms.
- Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all calculations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Professional designation such as PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor), CET (Certified Engineering Technologist), or P.Eng (Professional Engineer).
- Experience with a variety of project types (e.g., commercial, residential, industrial, institutional).
- Familiarity with local building codes, bylaws, and permitting processes in British Columbia.
- Experience with project management software.
