Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental management systems (EMS) in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA, MDEQ).
  • Conduct regular environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports, permits, and documentation to regulatory agencies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provide expert guidance and training to employees on environmental protection, waste management, pollution prevention, and emergency response procedures.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, accidents, and non-compliance issues, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and leadership teams to integrate sustainable practices into facility design, processes, and product lifecycle.
  • Monitor key environmental performance indicators (KPIs) and propose innovative solutions for continuous improvement in resource conservation and emissions reduction.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in environmental compliance, EHS management, or a similar role within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of US federal and Michigan state environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, SARA Title III).
  • Proven ability to conduct environmental site assessments, audits, and investigations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), REM (Registered Environmental Manager), or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental modeling software or data analysis tools.
