Job Description

This role is for a highly skilled and safety-conscious Wind Turbine Technician ready to contribute to the rapidly growing renewable energy sector with Hiring.zycto in Pinecrest, Taylor. As a critical member of our field operations team, you will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and longevity of our wind turbine fleet. Your day-to-day will involve a diverse range of tasks, from conducting routine preventative maintenance to diagnosing complex issues and performing corrective repairs on turbine systems. This includes meticulous inspection and servicing of intricate gearboxes, generators, pitch and yaw systems, braking mechanisms, and sophisticated control systems. You will regularly climb towers to access nacelles and blades, requiring comfort with heights and a strong understanding of fall protection. Safety is paramount in all our operations, and you will strictly adhere to all company, OSHA, and industry safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures, confined space entry, and proper use of personal protective equipment. You will utilize specialized tools, advanced diagnostic software, and technical manuals to troubleshoot faults, interpret schematics, and execute repairs with precision and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on wind turbine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex faults and malfunctions using specialized tools and diagnostic software.
  • Execute corrective repairs and component replacements on turbines, including gearboxes, generators, and control systems.
  • Conduct pre-assembly, commissioning, and decommissioning checks of turbine installations.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and confined space procedures.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately in the maintenance management system.
  • Work at heights (climbing towers) and in varying weather conditions.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to stay current with technology and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure operational continuity.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs and unplanned maintenance issues as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven mechanical aptitude and repair skills.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and repair experience (LV/MV systems).
  • Solid hydraulic system knowledge and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software specific to wind turbines.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations (OSHA 10/30, LOTO, fall protection).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Comfort and ability to work at heights (climbing towers and using safety equipment).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb, and work in challenging outdoor conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Wind Energy Technology, Electrical Systems, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • GWO (Global Wind Organisation) certifications (First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, Working at Heights, Sea Survival if applicable).
  • Previous experience with specific turbine manufacturers (e.g., Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE, Nordex).
  • Experience with SCADA systems for monitoring and control of wind farms.
  • Experience with high-voltage (HV) systems and switching procedures.
